Negation and Individualism (6 December 2008)

The third fundamental law is the "negation of the negation" or as Jack Fischel described it "the life thereof." Once we pioneer new ground (the first negation) then we are forced to deal with what exists, we must deal with the life thereof (the second negation). Individualism pertains to the first negation; it is the pioneer cutting their ties with what is established and exploring the new or that which is beyond what is currently established. The second negation (sharing our creation with the people in return for their support) negates individualism and forms the foundation step for the people to get ahead. If you want an example of this, take a look at Ho Chi Minh; he negated self and by doing so helped the Vietnamese people to take a step forward. Such is revolutionary work.

Actually individualism is a pejorative word* in the literature of scientific communism and it refers to a violation of the third fundamental law; the "individualism* that Ho Chi Minh refers to means get what you can out of the people (exploit the people and then do what is necessary to protect wealth and private property gotten from exploitation, a "bourgeois ideology." The correct model for socialism, and communism are the pioneer and scientist who discover new laws and invent things that contribute to human development/progress/well-being and then share this with the society that builds laboratories for them, feeds and clothes them, etc. Without the farmer the scientist would starve. Pioneer yes but recognize the support that comes from society. Life is always negation of negation. You cannot have scientists who always share the same old thing with society (who never pioneer/explore/discover) nor can you have a scientists who refuse to share their discoveries with the people that make the scientists'life possible. One negation without the other does not work; it's unnatural.

*Here is a quote taken from section of the Vietnamese Communist Party website labeled Ho Chi Minh who refers to cadres and party members.

They should behave in an exemplary way before the masses in implementing Party policies and decisions, and find out a way to implement them well. To train in revolutionary virtues, to acquire the sense of socialist masterhood, we should resolutely fight against all vestiges of backward practices, especially against individualism, which represents the essence of all old habits. He said, "To build socialism and communism, we have to build socialist, communist men. To have socialist, communist men, we have to build socialist, communist ideologies. And to have socialist, communist ideologies, we have to get rid of individualist, bourgeois ideologies. We should strive and hold each other to ensure the victory of socialist ideologies over individualist ideologies. Everyone should be motivated by this motto: "One for all and all for one". (166)
